Indeed it has been!

Lots of changes since last I wrote. I've broken myself on the art wheel and in the process have become a much better artist and person (at least I think so?). I'll be uploading a bunch of new work soon, and hopefully now that I'm getting back into the swing of social media I'll be posting much more frequently!

Since last I posted I've completed several private commission pieces, including a few album covers for my friends at The Y Axes! Check out my art on their newest album, Sunglasses and Solar Flares: theyaxes.bandcamp.com

Currently I've got a couple of projects and jobs going on - I work as an on-call art handler/ installer at the San Jose Museum of Art, which is an interesting and challenging job to say the least. A few of my good friends, including GaryLaibArtÂ, have formed a collective to develop, produce, illustrate and publish analog games. Right now I'm working on illustrating a classic pulp fiction/ Jonny Quest style card game. We hoped to have it finished by APE in October but there is a lot of work to be done...

I'm also waiting to hear back from an application in SF. Won't go into any details, but I have my fingers crossed. Wish me luck!

I actually love Mondays. I guess that's easy when you don't work a 9-5 with weekends off. For me, Mondays are my day to reap the benefits of my hard work--posting a new piece I've been working all weekend to finish, raking in the comments and critiques, and then chilling out drawing cartoons all day. Throw in a little Skyrim and you've got a party.

I recently purchased Noah Bradley's new lecture, The Art of Freelancing: Everything I Wish They Taught Me in Art School. It's a 5-hour lecture that you can download here (www.theartoffreelancing.com/) for about $60. I bit the bullet and bought it (alliteration ftw!) and I've been really enjoying it. I don't go to art school, and I'm not the best when it comes to shameless self-marketing, so I really appreciate any advice I can get in the business of freelancing. Noah Bradley is a great teacher too. Subscribe to his youtube channel for dozens of great tutorials, especially if you're a fantasy illustrator or a landscape painter. I learn so much with every video.

Stay cool!

Oh hi, Deviantart!

The niners lost, but that's cool, I only watched for the sake of midday drinking and making awesome chili. Sorry, sports, I'm just not that into you. :/

I've already posted this a bunch of times on my other websites, but I've been reading this book: www.amazon.com/Color-Light-Gui….

It is awesome. See, I went to school for art, but my teachers never really got around to the whole "teaching you how to paint" thing. They were more concerned with whether or not your work was postmodern enough, i.e. banging your head against a wall and calling it art. (Sorry, pomos! But I hate your art! Sorry!) So, despite having spent several years in a college art program, I'm pretty much self-taught. This book and others by James Gurney (who I love because Dinotopia, OMG, OMG Dinotopia!) have been really helpful in building the foundations of understanding form, light and color, especially when working from imagination, as I usually do.

If you're into that sorta thing, you should check out my tumblr: tobuildarocketship.tumblr.com/
I try to post something every Monday. Which means i should be posting something at least once a week here, too! Plus sketches and stuff, probably.
